Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Activists circulated on social media a video clip of Prince Turki Al-Faisal, the former head of Saudi intelligence, and his comment and response to a question by a reporter of the Saudi state news channel about burning a copy of the Qur’an in Sweden.
Prince Turki Al-Faisal said in the statement, which was reported by the official Saudi channel: “There is no might or power except with God.
Sweden’s foreign minister, Tobias Billström, described the anti-Islam provocations as “horrific” after a right-wing politician burned a copy of the Quran during a police-sanctioned protest outside the Turkish embassy in Stockholm on Saturday.
“The anti-Islamic provocations are appalling…Sweden has far-reaching freedom of expression, but it does not mean that the Swedish government, or I, endorse the views that are expressed,” Billstrom said in a tweet on his official Twitter page, Saturday.
The incident occurred during one of two demonstrations given the green light by Stockholm police to be held outside the Turkish embassy on Saturday. Videos from the incident show right-wing anti-immigration politician Rasmus Paludan addressing a photographer holding a copy of the Quran. After delivering his speech, Paludan then proceeded. To set the book on fire with a lighter.
