The Chairman of the Chief of Staff of the US Army announced that about 100,000 Russian soldiers, and an equal number of Ukrainian soldiers, have been killed or wounded since the beginning of the war in Ukraine.

General Mark Milley, the highest-ranking officer in the United States Army, said: The United Nations estimates that 40,000 civilians have been killed in the armed conflict.

These numbers are the highest estimates issued by a Western official on the war so far.

The American general spoke of indications of Kyiv’s willingness to return to talks with Moscow, which might open a “window” for negotiations, as he put it.
