A recent report revealed a decline in mobile phone sales in Egypt during the month of August, to record about 674 thousand units, compared to about 1.427 million units during the same period last year, a decrease of 52.7%.

Because of the dollar scarcity crisis in Egypt, the list of companies that control market shares in the Egyptian market has changed. While “Samsung” settled on top of the list, its runner-up, “Huawei”, left the list of competing companies after it had acquired a large share in the Egyptian market.
According to data issued by the Marketing Research Corporation “GfK”, the Korean brand “Samsung” topped phone sales after it managed to increase its market share to 38.8% during the month of August, compared to a market share of 32.7% during the same period last year.
Despite the decline in its market share, the Chinese “OPPO” phones maintained the second position with a market share of 16.8%, compared to 24.5% during the same period last year.
And in third place, the Chinese “Redmi” phones, whose market share amounted to about 16.7% during the month of August, compared to about 13.9% during the same period last year.
Realme phones ranked fourth with a market share of 13.2%, compared to about 8.8% during the same period last year. While “Infinix” phones occupied the fifth position, with a market share of 4.1%, compared to a share of 7.9% during the same period last year.
The American brand “Apple” came in sixth place with a market share of 3.1%, compared to 1.8% during the same period last year. While the remaining market shares, amounting to about 7.3%, were distributed to other commercial brands offered in the local market during the same month.
In a recent report, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics in Egypt revealed a decline in Egypt’s imports of mobile phones during the first 8 months of this year, as the value of Egyptian imports recorded $337 million, compared to about $1.2 billion for the comparison period of last year 2021. a decline of about 72%.
The Statistics Authority stated that the import bill for mobile devices recorded a decrease of 90.1% during the second quarter of 2022, to reach $40.145 million compared to $47.155 million during the second quarter of 2021, and a decline of about 41.4% during the first quarter to record $273.656 million compared to $273.656 million. $467.284 million during the same quarter of 2021.
