David Carrick has been suspended by the police service
A British police officer admitted that he committed dozens of crimes of rape and sexual assault against 12 women.
David Carrick, who met his victims through online dating sites, has pleaded guilty to 49 counts of assault over two decades.
The Metropolitan Police apologized after it was revealed that the police had linked the accused to nine incidents, including allegations of rape, between 2000 and 2021.
A senior police officer said David’s assaults were unprecedented in the police force.
London Police Deputy Commissioner Barbara Gray said, “We had to note the pattern of aggressive behavior in him, and because we did not miss the opportunity to expel him from the device.”
“We are very sorry that he was able to use his status as a police officer in order to continue the rape, prolonging the suffering of his victims. We know that the victims felt that they could not file a complaint against him early because he told them that no one would believe them,” she added.
Carrick was suspended from the Metropolitan Police after he confessed to twenty-four rapes and was arrested in October 2021.
His attacks extended between 2003 and 2020, and most of them took place in Hertfordshire, where he lives.
He may control what his victims wear and what they eat, and even prevent some of his victims from speaking to their children.
“Karrick was in a position where he had a responsibility to protect the public, but he did the opposite in his private life for 17 years,” said Jaswant Nirwal, Senior Prosecutor in the Criminal Prosecution Division.
“This is a man who degraded and humiliated his victims to such an extent that I have not seen anything like him in my 34 years of professional life,” she added.
David Carrick admitted to twenty-four rapes
Carrick, who served in the Protection of Parliament, Missions and Diplomacy Command, met his victims via online dating sites and used his position in the police to gain trust.
The two confessed in court to four crimes of rape, confiscation of the freedom of the victims, and the assault of a 40-year-old woman in 2003.
Carrick pleaded guilty in December to forty-three counts, including 20 counts of rape.
Carrick admitted to raping nine women, some more than once, over a period of months or even years, and used violence in many cases, leaving physical scars on his victims.
Speaking outside court, Chief Inspector Ian Moore of the Major Crimes Unit for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire said the details of David Carrick’s crimes were shocking. “I think many will be appalled and sickened by what he has done, but I hope it will reassure the victims and the public in general that no one is above the law and that the police will relentlessly pursue the perpetrators who target women in this way,” he said.

He said he expected more witnesses to emerge. Carrick admitted that he repeatedly imprisoned one of his victims in a small closet under the stairs in his home.
“I’ve seen bigger dog crates than the one he locked on his victim,” said Chief Detective Moore.
After Carrick pleaded guilty, the police service withheld his monthly salary and began expedited proceedings to hold the first hearing on Tuesday.
London Mayor Sadiq Khan said he was sick and disgusted. “Important questions must be answered about how Carrick was able to use his position in such a egregious way,” he added.
The prime minister’s official spokesperson said it was an appalling crime and “Rishi Sunak expresses his solidarity with the victims”.
“We were clear: there is no place in the police force for those who do not strictly adhere to the required standards of behavior and are not fit to wear police uniforms,” he added.
