Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on a visit to Kherson that its liberation marked the “beginning of the end” of the war with Russia.

He told the soldiers that Ukraine was “moving forward” and ready for peace.

The loss of Kherson was a major setback for Russia – despite Moscow’s insistence that the city still belonged to Russia.

Kherson was the only regional capital occupied by Russia. Russian forces captured Kherson in March, weeks after the invasion began.
