Honor’s upcoming foldable display may have only one thin screen

Honor teased the launch of its second foldable flagship phone.

Chinese phone maker Honor plans to launch Magic Vs, or a single-screen foldable phone, in mainland China on November 24, the company said in a statement to the media on Thursday.

The device is a follow-up to the Honor pioneer Magic V is a foldable phonethat hit the market earlier this year. The upcoming foldable design marks a departure from that of its predecessor, which features dual screens in a design similar to the Samsung Galaxy Fold 4.

Honor, along with its Chinese competitors Xiaomi and Huawei, have launched single-screen foldable phones with different designs. The Huawei Mate XS 2 has a wraparound design, while Xiaomi’s Mi Mix Fold 2 has a book-like design. Thanks to the single-screen design, foldable phones are slimmer and easier to carry, a feature that’s helped push them into the mainstream.

Honor Magic V foldable phone is the company’s first first-generation foldable phone.

Honor was once a sub-brand of the Chinese tech giant Huawei Separated from the parent company in November 2020, which was sold to Shenzhen Zhixin New Information Technology. The sale comes as Huawei’s consumer business struggles to stay afloat after tough sanctions imposed by the Trump administration. The Chinese telecom company is targeting global chip distribution.
