Finnish Prime Minister: We are ready for any Russian scenario

Today, Monday, Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin confirmed in an interview with Al-Arabiya and Al-Hadath that her country is ready for all scenarios after applying to join NATO, stressing that there are no threats from Moscow so far.

‘Preparing for the crisis’

She added that the energy crisis affects Finland due to the rise in fuel prices, but she made it clear that her country has long prepared for the crisis, “and we do not depend heavily on Russia for energy like several European countries.”

We are ready for all scenarios.

She also expressed Finland’s readiness for any scenarios or Russian response after the request to join NATO, pointing out that “there are no Russian threats so far.”

While she indicated that Finland decided to join NATO after Russian forces entered the territory of Ukraine.

‘We stand by the women of Iran’

In another context, the Prime Minister of Finland, who is attending the climate summit in Sharm el-Sheikh, condemned Iran’s violations against peaceful demonstrators, stressing standing by Iranian women, saying: “We want justice for women everywhere.”

It is noteworthy that US President Joe Biden, last August, ratified the accession of Finland and Sweden to NATO, while the two Scandinavian countries are proceeding to obtain legislative approvals for their request.

“Countering potential Russian expansion”

The Russian military operation in Ukraine prompted a historic change in Finland and Sweden’s position on joining NATO, after Helsinki remained neutral during the Cold War, in exchange for assurances from Moscow that Soviet forces would not invade its territory.

It is estimated that the process of joining NATO will officially take place at the end of this year, as part of a new strategy for the alliance aimed at strengthening military concentrations in Europe to confront any possible Russian expansion.
