A NASA official told the BBC that humans could stay on the moon for long periods during this decade.

Howard Ho, who leads NASA’s lunar rover program Orion, said the living areas will be essential to supporting science missions.

He said Wednesday’s launch of the Artemis rocket, carrying Orion, was “a historic day for humankind’s space travel.”

Orion is currently located about 134,000 km from the Moon.
