The second and penultimate part of the “Shashat from Gaza” series includes 9 short interviews with residents of the Gaza Strip. The “Shashes from Gaza” series was produced by the Center for Peace Communications, a New York-based non-profit organization, and is published exclusively in Arabic by Al Arabiya.net, as well as in Persian by Kayhan London, and in English and French by the Times. of Israel, and Spanish and Portuguese via Infobae and RecordTV respectively.
In order to maintain the security and safety of the speakers from Gaza, a voice-changing technology was employed, and they appear as animations instead of watching actual video clips.
Al-Arabiya.net reviewed the original footage, which matches the animated clips it simulates, to verify the identity of the speakers.
In the first part of the “Noises from Gaza” series, which was published last week, men and women from Gaza described Hamas’ practices of suppressing rights and violating personal freedoms. They talked about arbitrary arrests, Hamas’s extortion of small merchants, and the silence of journalists.
The speakers expressed their strong support for the self-determination of the Palestinians, and denounced the practices of Hamas as harming this issue by waging wars with Israel, which it cannot win by hiding its members in shelters and leaving civilians to suffer losses.
They also expressed their conviction that Hamas’s wars are nothing but a mere play to bring aid money, which the movement’s elements continue to loot.
In the second part of the “Noises from Gaza” episodes, more grievances within the Strip are revealed, and the attempts of the Strip’s residents to react to them, exemplified by the effort made by nearly 1,000 Gazans in 2019 to challenge the authority of Hamas by organizing demonstrations in Streets. Four veterans of that protest movement recount their experiences and explain how they reshaped their lives and outlook.
