A Tanzanian airliner has crashed into Lake Victoria while trying to land in the northwestern Bukoba region, killing at least 19 people.

An official said the Precision Air plane was carrying 43 people. The two pilots survived the accident but were still trapped inside the cockpit, and were talking to local officials.

Local rescue workers and fishermen are at the site in an attempt to rescue those stranded on board.

Abdel Nouri was at the airport waiting for a flight back to Dar es Salaam, when he saw the plane sinking into the water.
